Tôi nghe như vầy:
Một thời, Phật trú trong vườn Lộc dã, Tiên nhân trú xứ, nước Ba-la-nại. Bấy giờ Thế Tôn bảo các Tỳ-kheo:
“Có bốn Thánh đế. Những gì là bốn? Đó là Khổ Thánh đế, Khổ tập Thánh đế, Khổ diệt Thánh đế, Khổ diệt đạo tích Thánh đế. Tỳ-kheo đối với Khổ Thánh đế nên biết, nên hiểu; đối với Khổ tập Thánh đế nên biết, nên đoạn; đối với Khổ diệt Thánh đế nên biết, nên chứng; đối với con đường đưa đến sự diệt tận của khổ Thánh đế nên biết, nên tu.”
Phật nói kinh này xong, các Tỳ-kheo nghe những gì Đức Phật dạy, hoan hỷ phụng hành.
如是我聞：
一時，佛住波羅［木＊奈］仙人住T 0104b14處鹿野苑中。
爾時，世尊告諸比丘：「有四聖T 0104b15諦。何等為四？謂苦聖諦、苦集聖諦、苦滅聖T 0104b16諦、苦滅道跡聖諦。若比丘於苦聖諦當知、T 0104b17當解，於集聖諦當知、當斷，於苦滅聖諦T 0104b18當知、當證，於苦滅道跡聖諦當知、當修。」
佛T 0104b19說此經已，諸比丘聞佛所說，歡喜奉行。
T 0104b20 SC 1Thus I have heard: One time, the Buddha was staying at the Residence of Sages in the Deer Preserve of Bārāṇasī.
SC 2It was then that the Bhagavān addressed the monks, “There are four noble truths. What are the four? They are the noble truth of suffering, the noble truth of suffering’s formation, the noble truth of suffering’s cessation, and the noble truth of the path to suffering’s cessation.
SC 3“Supposing that a monk will know the noble truth of suffering, then he will understand [suffering] … will know the noble truth of suffering’s formation, then he will end [its formation] … will know the noble truth of suffering’s cessation, then he will realize [its cessation] … will know the noble truth of the path to suffering’s cessation, then he will cultivate [that path].”
SC 4After the Buddha spoke this sūtra, the monks who heard what the Buddha taught rejoiced and approved.
