Tôi nghe như vầy:
Một thời, Phật ở tại vườn Cấp cô độc, rừng cây Kỳ-đà, nước Xá-vệ. Bấy giờ, Thế Tôn nói với các Tỳ-kheo:
“Đối với mắt mà không ly dục, tâm không giải thoát, thì không thể có khả năng hoàn toàn diệt tận khổ. Đối với tai, mũi, lưỡi, thân, ý mà không ly dục, tâm không giải thoát, thì không thể có khả năng hoàn toàn diệt tận khổ. Này các Tỳ-kheo, đối với mắt nếu ly dục, tâm giải thoát, thì có khả năng hoàn toàn diệt tận khổ. Đối với tai, mũi, lưỡi, thân, ý mà ly dục, tâm giải thoát, thì có thể có khả năng hoàn toàn diệt tận khổ.”
Phật nói kinh này xong, các Tỳ-kheo nghe những gì Đức Phật dạy, hoan hỷ phụng hành.
如是我聞：
一時，佛住舍衛國祇樹給T 0049c14孤獨園。
爾時，世尊告諸比丘：「若於眼不離T 0049c15欲，心不解脫者，不堪任正盡苦。於耳、鼻、T 0049c16舌、身、意不離欲，心不解脫者，不堪任正T 0049c17盡苦。諸比丘！若於眼色離欲，心解脫者，T 0049c18彼堪任正盡苦。於耳、鼻、舌、身、意離欲，心解T 0049c19脫者，堪任正盡苦。」
佛說此經已，諸比丘聞T 0049c20佛所說，歡喜奉行。
T 0049c21 Thus have I heard. At one time the Buddha was staying at Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s Park.
At that time the Blessed One said to the monks: “If one is not free from desire for the eye, one’s mind is not liberated and one is not capable of rightly eradicating dukkha. [If] one is not free from desire for the ear … the nose … the tongue … the body … the mind, one’s mind is not liberated and one is not capable of rightly eradicating dukkha.
“Monks, if one is free from desire for the eye, one’s mind is liberated and one is capable of rightly eradicating dukkha. [If] one is free from desire for the ear … the nose … the tongue … the body … the mind, one’s mind is liberated and one is capable of rightly eradicating dukkha.”
When the Buddha had spoken this discourse, hearing what the Buddha had said the monks were delighted and received it respectfully.
