Tôi nghe như vầy:
Một thời, Phật ở tại vườn Cấp cô độc, rừng cây Kỳ-đà, nước Xá-vệ. Bấy giờ, Thế Tôn nói với các Tỳ-kheo:
“Ai ở nơi mắt mà sanh hỷ, thì đối với khổ cũng sanh hỷ. Ai đối với khổ mà sanh hỷ, Ta nói người đó không thể giải thoát khổ. Đối với tai, mũi, lưỡi, thân, ý mà sanh hỷ, thì đối với khổ cũng sẽ sanh hỷ. Ai đối với khổ mà sanh hỷ, Ta nói người đó không thể giải thoát khổ.
“Này các Tỳ-kheo, ai đối với mắt mà không sanh hỷ, thì đối với khổ cũng không sanh hỷ. Ai đối với khổ mà không sanh hỷ, Ta nói người đó có thể giải thoát khổ. Đối với tai, mũi, lưỡi, thân, ý mà không sanh hỷ, thì đối với khổ cũng không sanh hỷ. Ai đối với khổ mà không sanh hỷ, Ta nói người đó có thể giải thoát khổ.”
Phật nói kinh này xong, các Tỳ-kheo nghe những gì Đức Phật dạy, hoan hỷ phụng hành.
如是我聞：
一時，佛住舍衛國祇樹給T 0050a02孤獨園。
爾時，世尊告諸比丘：「若於眼生喜T 0050a03者，則於苦生喜，若於苦生喜者，我說彼T 0050a04不解脫於苦。於耳、鼻、舌、身、意生喜者，則T 0050a05於苦生喜，於苦生喜者，我說彼不解脫T 0050a06於苦。
「諸比丘！若於眼不生喜者，則於苦T 0050a07不生喜，於苦不生喜者，我說彼解脫於T 0050a08苦。於耳、鼻、舌、身、意不生喜者，則於苦不生T 0050a09喜，於苦不生喜者，我說彼解脫於苦。」
佛T 0050a10說此經已，諸比丘聞佛所說，歡喜奉行。
T 0050a11 Thus have I heard. At one time the Buddha was staying at Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s Park.
At that time the Blessed One said to the monks: “If one gives rise to delight in relation to the eye, then one gives rise to delight in relation to what is dukkha. If one gives rise to delight in relation to dukkha, I say, one is not liberated from dukkha. [If] one gives rise to delight in relation to the ear … the nose … the tongue … the body … the mind, then one gives rise to delight in relation to dukkha. [If] one gives rise to delight in relation to what is dukkha, I say, one is not liberated from dukkha.
“Monks, if one does not give rise to delight in relation to the eye, then one does not give rise to delight in relation to what is dukkha. One who does not give rise to delight in relation to dukkha, I say, is liberated from dukkha. [If] one does not give rise to delight in relation to the ear … the nose … the tongue … the body … the mind, then one does not give rise to delight in relation to what is dukkha. One who does not give rise to delight in relation to dukkha, I say, is liberated from dukkha.”
When the Buddha had spoken this discourse, hearing what the Buddha had said the monks were delighted and received it respectfully.
