Tôi nghe như vầy:
Một thời, Phật ở tại vườn Cấp cô độc, rừng cây Kỳ-đà, nước Xá-vệ. Bấy giờ, Thế Tôn nói với các Tỳ-kheo:
“Đối với mắt và sắc mà không ly dục, tâm không giải thoát, thì không thể có khả năng vượt qua cái khổ của sanh, già, bệnh, chết. Đối với tai, mũi, lưỡi, thân, ý mà không ly dục, tâm không giải thoát, thì không thể có khả vượt qua cái khổ của sanh, già, bệnh, chết. Này các Tỳ-kheo, đối với mắt và sắc nếu ly dục, tâm giải thoát, thì có khả năng vượt qua cái khổ của sanh, già, bệnh, chết. Đối với tai, mũi, lưỡi, thân, ý mà ly dục, tâm giải thoát, thì có thể có khả năng vượt qua cái khổ của sanh, già, bệnh, chết.”
Phật nói kinh này xong, các Tỳ-kheo nghe những gì Đức Phật dạy, hoan hỷ phụng hành.
如是我聞：
一時，佛住舍衛國祇樹給T 0049c22孤獨園。
爾時，世尊告諸比丘：「若於眼、色T 0049c23不離欲，心不解脫者，不堪任越生、老、病、死T 0049c24苦。於耳、鼻、舌、身、意不離欲，心不解脫T 0049c25者，不堪任越生、老、病、死苦。諸比丘！若於T 0049c26眼、色離欲，心解脫者，堪任越生、老、病、死苦。T 0049c27於耳、鼻、舌、身、意離欲，心解脫者，堪任越生、T 0049c28老、病、死苦。」
佛說此經已，諸比丘聞佛所說，T 0049c29歡喜奉行。
T 0050a01 Thus have I heard. At one time the Buddha was staying at Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s Park.
At that time the Blessed One said to the monks: “If one is not free from desire for the eye, one’s mind is not liberated and one is not capable of going beyond the dukkha of birth, old age, disease, and death. [If] one is not free from desire for the ear … the nose … the tongue … the body … the mind, one’s mind is not liberated and one is not capable of going beyond the dukkha of birth, old age, disease, and death.”
“Monks, if one is free from desire for the eye, one’s mind is liberated and one is capable of going beyond the dukkha of birth, old age, disease, and death. [If] one is free from desire for the ear … the nose … the tongue … the body … the mind, one’s mind is liberated and one is capable of going beyond the dukkha of birth, old age, disease, and death.”
When the Buddha had spoken this discourse, hearing what the Buddha had said the monks were delighted and received it respectfully.
