Tôi nghe như vầy:
Một thời, Phật ở tại vườn Cấp cô độc, rừng cây Kỳ-đà, nước Xá-vệ. Bấy giờ, Thế Tôn nói với các Tỳ-kheo:
“Nếu đối với mắt mà không phân biệt, không biết rõ, không đoạn trừ, không ly dục, thì không thể có khả năng hoàn toàn diệt tận khổ. Đối với tai, mũi, lưỡi, thân, ý cũng lại như vậy. Này các Tỳ-kheo, đối với mắt hoặc phân biệt, hoặc biết rõ, hoặc đoạn trừ, hoặc ly dục, thì có thể chân chánh diệt tận khổ. Đối với tai, mũi, lưỡi, thân, ý hoặc phân biệt, hoặc biết rõ, hoặc đoạn trừ, hoặc xa lìa dục, thì có thể có khả năng hoàn toàn diệt tận khổ.”
Phật nói kinh này xong, các Tỳ-kheo nghe những gì Đức Phật dạy, hoan hỷ phụng hành.
如是我聞：
一時，佛住舍衛國祇樹給T 0049b27孤獨園。
爾時，世尊告諸比丘：「若於眼不識、T 0049b28不知、不斷、不離欲者，不堪任正盡苦。耳、鼻、T 0049b29舌、身、意亦復如是。諸比丘！於眼若識、若知、T 0049c01若斷、若離欲者，堪任正盡苦。於耳、鼻、舌、身、T 0049c02意，若識、若知、若斷、若離欲者，堪任正盡苦。」
佛T 0049c03說此經已，諸比丘聞佛所說，歡喜奉行。
T 0049c04 Thus have I heard. At one time the Buddha was staying at Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s Park.
At that time the Blessed One said to the monks: “If one does not discern and does not understand the eye, does not abandon and does not become free from desire for it, one is not capable of rightly eradicating dukkha.
“The ear … the nose … the tongue … the body … the mind is also like this.
“Monks, one who discerns and understands the eye, and who abandons and becomes free from desire for it, is capable of rightly eradicating dukkha. One who knows and understands the ear … the nose … the tongue … the body … the mind, and who abandons and becomes free from desire for it, is capable of rightly eradicating dukkha.”
When the Buddha had spoken this discourse, hearing what the Buddha had said the monks were delighted and received it respectfully.
