Tôi nghe như vầy:
Một thời, Phật ở tại vườn Cấp cô độc, rừng cây Kỳ-đà, nước Xá-vệ. Bấy giờ, có một Tỳ-kheo khác, đến chỗ Đức Phật, đầu mặt lạy sát chân Phật, rồi đứng qua một bên, bạch Phật rằng:
“Bạch Thế Tôn, như Thế Tôn nói ‘chứng đắc Niết-bàn ngay trong hiện tại.’ Vậy, thế nào là Tỳ-kheo chứng đắc Niết-bàn ngay trong hiện tại?”
Phật bảo Tỳ-kheo:
“Lành thay! Lành thay! Nay ngươi muốn biết về sự ‘chứng đắc Niết-bàn ngay trong hiện tại’ phải không?”
Tỳ-kheo bạch Phật:
“Thưa vâng, bạch Thế Tôn.”
Phật bảo Tỳ-kheo:
“Hãy lắng nghe và suy nghĩ kỹ, Ta sẽ vì ngươi mà nói.
Phật bảo Tỳ-kheo:
“Đối với sắc mà sanh tâm yểm ly, ly dục, diệt tận, không khởi lên các lậu, tâm giải thoát chân chánh, thì đó gọi là Tỳ-kheo chứng đắc Niết-bàn ngay trong hiện tại. Cũng vậy, đối với thọ, tưởng, hành, thức mà sanh tâm yểm ly, ly dục, diệt tận, không khởi lên các lậu, tâm giải thoát chân chánh, thì đó gọi là Tỳ-kheo chứng đắc Niết-bàn ngay trong hiện tại.”
Tỳ-kheo kia sau khi nghe những lời Phật dạy, phấn khởi vui mừng, lạy Phật mà lui.
如是我聞：
一時，佛住舍衛國祇樹給孤T 0006a01獨園。
爾時，有異比丘來詣佛所，頭面禮T 0006a02足，却住一面，白佛言：「世尊！如世尊所說，T 0006a03得見法涅槃，云何比丘得見法涅槃？」
佛告T 0006a04比丘：「善哉！善哉！汝今欲知見法涅槃耶？」
比T 0006a05丘白佛：「唯然，世尊！」
佛告比丘：「諦聽，善思，T 0006a06當為汝說。」
佛告比丘：「於色生厭、離欲、滅T 0006a07盡，不起諸漏，心正解脫，是名比丘見法涅T 0006a08槃；如是受、想、行、識，於識生厭、離欲、滅盡，T 0006a09不起諸漏，心正解脫，是名比丘見法涅槃。」
T 0006a10時，彼比丘聞佛所說，踊躍歡喜，作禮而T 0006a11去。
T 0006a12 Thus have I heard. At one time the Buddha was staying at Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s Park. T 6a At that time a certain monk approached the Buddha, paid homage with his head at the Buddha’s feet and withdrew to stand at one side. He said to the Buddha: “As the Blessed One has spoken about attaining Nirvāṇa here and now—how does a monk attain Nirvāṇa here and now?”
The Buddha said to the monk: “It is well, it is well. You now wish to know about Nirvāṇa here and now. Is it like this?” The monk said to the Buddha: “Indeed, Blessed One.”
The Buddha said to the monk: “Listen and pay careful attention to what I will tell you.” The Buddha said to the monk: “Arousing disenchantment for bodily form, being free from desire for it, proceeding towards its cessation, and by not clinging the mind is rightly liberated from the influxes. This is reckoned how a monk attains Nirvāṇa here and now. In the same way arousing disenchantment for feeling … perception … formations … consciousness, being free from desire for it, proceeding towards its cessation, and by not clinging the mind is rightly liberated from the influxes. This is reckoned how a monk attains Nirvāṇa here and now.”
Then that monk, hearing what the Buddha had said, was thrilled with delight, paid homage and left.

Một thời, Phật ở tại vườn Cấp cô độc, rừng cây Kỳ-đà, nước Xá-vệ. Bấy giờ, có một Tỳ-kheo khác, đến chỗ Đức Phật, đầu mặt lạy sát chân Phật, rồi đứng qua một bên, bạch Phật rằng:
