Tôi nghe như vầy:
Một thời, Phật ở tại vườn Cấp-cô-độc, rừng cây Kỳ-đà, nước Xá vệ. Bấy giờ, Thế Tôn nói với các Tỳ kheo:
“Hãy đọan trừ dục tham đối với sắc. Dục tham đã đọan trừ rồi thì sắc đoạn. Khi sắc đoạn rồi, thì được biến tri về đoạn Khi được biến tri về đoạn, thì gốc rễ bị đoạn. Như chặt ngọn cây Ta-la, sau này không còn tái sanh được nữa. Cũng vậy, thọ, tưởng, hành, thức, dục tham đoạn …… cho đến, đời sau không tái sanh được nữa.”
Phật nói Kinh này xong, các Tỳ kheo nghe những gì đức Phật đã dạy, hoan hỷ phụng hành.
如是我聞：
一時，佛住舍衛國祇樹給孤T 0019c26獨園。
爾時，世尊告諸比丘：「當斷色欲貪，欲T 0019c27貪斷已，則色斷；色斷已，得斷知；得斷知T 0019c28已，則根本斷。如截多羅樹頭，未來不復T 0019c29更生。如是受、想、行、識欲貪斷，乃至未來世T 0020a01不復更生。」
佛說此經已，諸比丘聞佛所說，T 0020a02歡喜奉行。
T 0020a03 Thus have I heard. At one time the Buddha was staying at Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s Park.
At that time the Blessed One said to the monks: “You should abandon desire and lust for bodily form. Having abandoned desire and lust for it, bodily form will be abandoned. Having abandoned bodily form, you will attain the understanding that it has been abandoned. Having attained the understanding that it has been abandoned, its root will be abandoned, like cutting off the crown of a Palmyra tree, so that it will not grow again in the future.
“In the same way, you should abandon desire and lust for feeling … perception … formations … consciousness … up to … so that it will not grow again in the future.” T 20a
When the Buddha had spoken this discourse, the monks, hearing what the Buddha had said, were delighted and received it respectfully.
