Tôi nghe như vầy:
Một thời, Phật ở tại vườn Cấp cô độc, rừng cây Kỳ-đà, nước Xá-vệ. Bấy giờ, Thế Tôn nói với các Tỳ-kheo:
“Ai đối với sắc mà yêu thích, thì đối với khổ cũng yêu thích. Đối với khổ mà yêu thích, thì đối với khổ sẽ không được giải thoát, không rõ, không ly dục.
“Cũng vậy, đối với thọ, tưởng, hành, thức mà yêu thích, thì cũng yêu thích khổ. Ai yêu thích khổ, thì đối với khổ không được giải thoát.
“Này các Tỳ-kheo, ai đối với sắc không yêu thích, thì đối với khổ cũng không thích. Ai đối với khổ không thích, thì đối với khổ sẽ được giải thoát.
“Cũng vậy, ai đối với thọ, tưởng, hành, thức không yêu thích, thì đối với khổ cũng không thích. Ai đối với khổ không thích, thì đối với khổ sẽ được giải thoát.
“Này các Tỳ-kheo, đối với sắc không biết, không rõ, không lìa tham dục, tâm không giải thoát. Ai không giải thoát tâm tham, thì sẽ không thể đoạn trừ được khổ não.
“Cũng vậy, đối với thọ, tưởng, hành, thức ai không biết, không rõ, không ly dục, tâm không giải thoát. Tham tâm không giải thoát, thì sẽ không đoạn trừ được khổ não.
“Đối với sắc, nếu người nào biết, rõ, lìa tham dục, tâm giải thoát, thì sẽ có thể đoạn trừ được khổ não.
“Cũng vậy, đối với thọ, tưởng, hành, thức nếu biết, rõ, lìa tham dục, tâm giải thoát, thì có thể đoạn trừ khổ não.”
Bấy giờ, các Tỳ-kheo sau khi nghe những điều Phật dạy, hoan hỷ phụng hành.
如是我聞：
一時，佛住舍衛國祇樹給孤T 0001b17獨園。
爾時，世尊告諸比丘：「於色愛喜者，則T 0001b18於苦愛喜；於苦愛喜者，則於苦不得解T 0001b19脫、不明、不離欲。如是受、想、行、識愛喜者，則T 0001b20愛喜苦，愛喜苦者，則於苦不得解脫。
「諸T 0001b21比丘！於色不愛喜者，則不喜於苦；不喜T 0001b22於苦者，則於苦得解脫。如是受、想、行、識不T 0001b23愛喜者，則不喜於苦；不喜於苦者，則於T 0001b24苦得解脫。
「諸比丘！於色不知、不明、不離欲T 0001b25貪、心不解脫，貪心不解脫者，則不能斷T 0001b26苦；如是受、想、行、識，不知、不明、不離欲貪、心不T 0001b27解脫者，則不能斷苦。
「於色若知、若明、若離T 0001b28欲貪、心得解脫者，則能斷苦；如是受、想、行、T 0001b29識，若知、若明、若離欲貪、心得解脫者，則能T 0001c01斷苦。」
時，諸比丘聞佛所說，歡喜奉行。
T 0001c02 Thus have I heard. At one time the Buddha was staying at Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s Park. At that time the Blessed One said to the monks:
“One who craves for and delights in bodily form, craves for and delights in dukkha. One who craves for and delights in dukkha will not attain liberation from dukkha, will not have knowledge and become free from desire for it. In the same way one who craves for and delights in feeling … perception … formations … consciousness craves for and delights in dukkha. One who craves for and delights in dukkha will not attain liberation from dukkha.
“Monks, one who does not crave for or delight in bodily form, does not delight in dukkha. One who does not delight in dukkha will attain liberation from dukkha. In the same way one who does not crave for or delight in feeling … perception … formations … consciousness does not delight in dukkha. One who does not delight in dukkha will attain liberation from dukkha.
“Monks, not understanding bodily form, not having knowledge regarding it, not being free from desire and lust for it, the mind will not be liberated. One who has not liberated the mind from lust will not be able to eradicate dukkha. In the same way not understanding feeling … perception … formations … consciousness, not having knowledge regarding it, not being free from desire and lust for it, one will not liberate the mind and will not be able to eradicate dukkha.
“Understanding bodily form, having knowledge regarding it, being free from desire and lust for it, one will attain liberation of the mind and be able to eradicate dukkha. In the same way understanding feeling … perception … formations … consciousness, having knowledge regarding it, being free from desire and lust for it, one will attain liberation of the mind and be able to eradicate dukkha.” T 1c
Then the monks, hearing what the Buddha had said, were delighted and received it respectfully.
