王 T 0714a16復問那先。凡人身中五知作眾事所成耶。作 T 0714a17一事成五知耶。那先言作眾事所成。非一事 T 0714a18所成也。譬如一地五穀當生時各各自生動 T 0714a19類人身中五事皆用眾事各所生。王言善哉 T 0714a20善哉。
The king again asked Nāgasena, “Are the five awarenesses (ayatanas) of a person produced by various actions or by one action?”
Nāgasena replied, “They are produced by various actions, not by one action. It is just like when five kinds of seeds have been sown in a field, they would grow each according to its own kind. So are the five awarenesses of a person, they are produced by various actions.”
“Excellent, Nāgasena.”
