S.i,164Vi-n 1 Nhân duyên tại Sāvatthi.
Vi-n 2 Rồi Bà-la-môn Ahiṁsaka Bharadvāja đi đến Thế Tôn; sau khi đến, nói lên với Thế Tôn những lời chào đón hỏi thăm; sau khi nói lên những lời chào đón hỏi thăm thân hữu, liền ngồi xuống một bên.
Vi-n 3 Ngồi xuống một bên, Bà-la-môn Ahiṁsaka Bharadvāja bạch Thế Tôn:
—Con là Ahiṁsaka, thưa Tôn giả Gotama! Con là Ahiṁsaka, thưa Tôn giả Gotama!
Vi-n 4 (Thế Tôn):
Danh phải tương xứng người,
Người phải là bất hại!
Ai với thân, miệng, ý,
Không làm hại một ai,
Ai không hại người khác,
Người ấy thật bất hại.
Vi-n 5 Khi được nghe vậy, Bà-la-môn Ahiṁsaka Bharadvāja bạch Thế Tôn:
—Thật vi diệu thay, Tôn giả Gotama…,” … không còn trở lui đời sống này nữa.”
Vi-n 6 Và Tôn giả Bharadvāja trở thành một vị A-la-hán nữa.
Sāvatthinidānaṁ.
Atha kho ahiṁsakabhāradvājo brāhmaṇo yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavatā saddhiṁ sammodi.
Sammodanīyaṁ kathaṁ sāraṇīyaṁ vītisāretvā ekamantaṁ nisīdi. Ekamantaṁ nisinno kho ahiṁsakabhāradvājo brāhmaṇo bhagavantaṁ etadavoca:
“ahiṁsakāhaṁ, bho gotama, ahiṁsakāhaṁ, bho gotamā”ti.
“Yathā nāmaṁ tathā cassa,
siyā kho tvaṁ ahiṁsako;
Yo ca kāyena vācāya,
manasā ca na hiṁsati;
Sa ve ahiṁsako hoti,
yo paraṁ na vihiṁsatī”ti.
Evaṁ vutte, ahiṁsakabhāradvājo brāhmaṇo bhagavantaṁ etadavoca:
“abhikkantaṁ, bho gotama …pe…
abbhaññāsi.
Aññataro ca panāyasmā ahiṁsakabhāradvājo arahataṁ ahosīti.
At Sāvatthī.
Then the brahmin Bhāradvāja the Harmless went up to the Buddha, and exchanged greetings with him.
When the greetings and polite conversation were over, he sat down to one side and said,
“I am Harmless, worthy Gotama, I am Harmless!”
“If you were really like your name,
then you’d be Harmless.
But a truly harmless person
does no harm by way of
body, speech, or mind;
they don’t harm anyone else.”
When he had spoken, the brahmin Bhāradvāja the Harmless said to the Buddha,
“Excellent, worthy Gotama! …” …
And Venerable Bhāradvāja the Harmless became one of the perfected.

Vi-n 4 (Thế Tôn):

Ai không hại người khác,
Người ấy thật bất hại.
Vi-n 5 Khi được nghe vậy, Bà-la-môn Ahiṁsaka Bharadvāja bạch Thế Tôn:

Vi-n 6 Và Tôn giả Bharadvāja trở thành một vị A-la-hán nữa.
